Introducing Alto™: a new GE™ Carestation™ compatible medical soda lime canister

Tuesday 8th September 2026

Molecular Products has launched ALTO, a new pre-filled, single-use carbon dioxide absorber for GE™ Carestation™ anaesthesia delivery systems. ALTO is a available filled with Sodasorb, Sodasorb LF or Sofnolime, so the choice of absorbent chemistry stays with the clinician rather than being dictated by the pack. Alongside Aria, Pre Pak and loose fill options, Alto completes our portfolio for the GE™ anaesthesia range.

A new pack type, not a new chemistry

The canister is new. What goes into it is not. Molecular Products has manufactured medical grade soda lime for over 90 years. We manufacture in both the UK and US, shipping to over 90 countries; in the US, our soda lime is used in one in every two surgeries. Every medical soda lime product we make meets USP requirements and is manufactured under certified ISO 13485 quality management systems, within a regulatory framework covering CE, UKCA and FDA.

Alto changes the format. It does not change the chemistry that anaesthesia caregivers have been relying on from Molecular Products CO2 absorbents for decades.

Three brands, one canister

Our soda lime brands are optimised for medical use and designed to deliver on performance, low dust and reliable colour change. Whether you choose Sodasorb, Sodasorb LF or Sofnolime, our expertise in chemical formulations means our CO2 absorbents are engineered to meet the clinical requirements of today’s anaesthesia practices.

Sodasorb: the everyday workhorse. Long-lasting absorption at a cost that makes it practical for routine clinical use

Sodasorb LF: engineered for low-flow anaesthesia. Permanent white to violet colour change and a formulation designed to prevent CO production and address Compound A risk

Sofnolime: for private label and partnerships. The D-shaped granule behind market leading brands, available for bespoke canister design

Which Carestation models take ALTO

ALTO is designed and tested for use in GE™ Carestation™ 620, 650, 650c Pendant, 650c Wall Mount, 750c and 850 systems configured with the disposable absorber. Carestation™ machines need a special purpose soda lime canister, such as ALTO, that is specifically engineered for its use.

The reusable canister for the Carestation™ can be filled using Molecular Products’ loose fill options including the Jug, Twin Pack, Canister Pak, Bag or Pail.
