SOFNOLIME RG GRADE

SOFNOLIME RG | POLISHING MEDIA FOR CO2 & ACIDIC CONTAMINANTS

Refinery grade sorbent for removal and control of trace contaminants in wet and mixed-phase hydrocarbon process streams.

Specific examples include the removal of CO2, H2S, COS and mercaptans from liquid natural gas (LNG) streams down to parts per million (ppm) levels.

Applications

•Propylene and Ethylene Purification:
Simple and cost effective removal of acidic contaminants including H2s, COS and CO2

•LPG Sweetening:
Removes hydrogen sulphide and mercaptans, leaving clean product and acceptable test characteristics

•Gas Condensate Processing:
Improves odour and stability by removing traces of unwanted acidic materials

•CFC Manufacture:
Extracts by-products including hydrogen chloride and phosgene

Why use Sofnolime RG?

For LNG and hydrocarbon processing applications where trace contaminants can impact downstream equipment, product quality or process performance, Sofnolime RG provides a reliable polishing step for achieving deep contaminant removal.

What is Sofnolime RG?

Sofnolime RG is a synergistic mixture of  alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides. The non-hygroscopic nature and extrudate catalyst form ensure high mechanical strength and superior handling properties

Typical analysis

  • Appearance: off white cylindrical extrudates
  • Particle diameter: 3mm
  • Weight loss at 200*C: 5%
  • Surface area: 12m2g-1
  • Pore volume: 0.3cm3g-1
  • Packing density: 750-850 kg m-3

Principal reactions

  • COS + H2O →  CO2 + H2S
  • H2S + NaOH → NaSH + H2O
  • NaSH + NaOH → Na2S + H2O
  • CO2 + Ca(OH)2 → CaCO3 + H2O

Sofnolime RG Design Information

Suggested design parameters for reaction vessels housing fixed beds of Sofnolime RG are as follows:

•Bed support: stainless steel mesh supported on grid with retaining ceramic ball or pebble layers top and bottom

•Maximum bed depth: max height 6m (20ft). Size calculation appropriate to application can be provided

•Bed dimensions: height to diameter ratio 2-4

•Pressure drop: standard engineering for particles in a fluid apply

•Acid gas loading: dependent on bed design and process conditions, from 2 – 10% wt can be achieved

Designed for LNG & hydrocarbon processing

Bulk purification → Sofnolime RG polishing → Clean hydrocarbon stream

Sofnolime RG can be incorporated as a final polishing stage where deeper contaminant removal is required following bulk treatment.

This can help provide an additional barrier against trace acidic contaminants before they reach downstream equipment or cryogenic processes

Sofnolime RG extrudates are optimised for use in wet and mixed-phase gas/hydrocarbon streams, including:

  • LNG and natural gas applications
  • Ethylene and propylene streams
  • LPG applications
  • Refinery and petrochemical process streams
  • Hydrocarbon streams requiring deep CO₂ or acid-gas polishing
